A Beautiful Day For My Long Run In Derby

In contrast to yesterday with its cold and strong winds, today turned out to be a beautiful day for my long run in Derby.

I left the hotel and headed to the Riverside Park, to run its trail into town.  My legs were still feeling sluggish after all the traveling that we have been doing.  I was hoping that a nice long run in Derby would fix that. The trail was busy this morning with locals heading to the football match, families out enjoying the sunshine and people walking their dogs.

I followed the trail past the city center and along the River Derwent for a few miles. At the end of a large park, where several football matches were being played, I turned around  and head back into town.  This time I took a detour to go look at Derby Cathedral.  It was magnificent old church, right in the middle of town.

After taking a few photographs, I re-joined the river trail and ran another 4-5 miles, trying to wake up my sluggish legs.  Towards the end of the run they felt much better.  This is something that is quite common. When your legs are sluggish or tired, a long easy run will often fix them.

This evening, my wife and I got to watch our son lift at the British Weightlifting Championship. This was the reason were are in Derby.  He did really well, placing 5th.  It was such a cool experience to watch him lift in a National Championship.
