Winter is a great time to start strength programs. Overall strength is very beneficial for endurance athletes, helping both overall endurance, and things like running economy.
I do provide strength programs for my coached athletes, if they are interested in them. The programs are a combination of well designed programs from others, with adjustments based on my own experience.
One thing that can be a bit of a challenge with strength programs, is access to equipment. For this reason, I am in the process of designing a program, that does not require any specialized equipment at all. It only requires a chair or bench for one of the exercises.
You would think that not including any weights, would result in quite an easy strength program. Having done the program however, I can confirm that it is quite challenging. I will be doing the program for a few weeks, to include any last minute adjustments, before making it available to my athletes.
I will also be doing an advanced strength program, that involves several weightlifting movements. Things like back squats and deadlifts. These more advanced programs, are only for those people who have been trained in the correct technique. Lifting heavy weights with bad technique, is a recipe for injuries.
What strength training programs do you do?
