Double Run Day

Why run twice in the same day?  Why not run the whole thing in one workout?

The reason for splitting up a longer run, is to reduce stress on the body and to reduce the potential for injury.  You get almost the same benefit as a single, longer run, but with much less risk.

I am still building up my run strength, after almost two months away from running, due to the stress fracture in my foot. As I start to run for longer periods of time, splitting runs helps reduce the likelihood of a relapse injury.

I did my first run before work this morning.  It was damp out, but not too cold.  One of those great days for running where you don’t feel like you are working hard, because it’s too hot or too cold.  I had a good run.

This evening, I got to do my second run with my wife.  We don’t run together often, because our paces are quite different.  Tonight however, everything lined up perfectly for us to run together.  It was great. The sun was breaking through the clouds, but it still wasn’t hot.  My mind drifted back to the races where I have paced her … I need to do that again some day soon.

When you run alone as much as I do, it’s really nice to have a running partner once in a while.  Today it was perfect.
