The Bike Trail Infrastructure In The Denver Area Is Fantastic

As part of our trip to Denver, we have been scouting out possible areas for relocation, now that I am retired.  As a triathlete, I have to figure out where I would possibly ride my bike, when considering a move.  Looking into this, I have discovered that the bike trail network out here is amazing.

I found the above map on coloradobikemaps.com.  Look at that network of trails; it is over 200 miles long! This map doesn’t include all the on street bike lanes, gravel routes and mountain bike trails…

This bike trail infrastructure is so much better than anything we have in Pittsburgh. It reflects the importance of an outdoor lifestyle in this area, which is also reflected in the number of public swimming pools too.

Beyond the immediate metropolitan area, there is obviously the possibility to ride bikes in the mountains. There are some classic bike routes, that go over very high mountain passes.  Miles and miles of gravel biking and mountain biking opportunities exist too.

These past few days have really convinced me that this part of Colorado is very high on our list of possible places for retirement. Now we just have to figure out if we can make it work financially; the property prices out here are very high.
