I will be traveling out of town for a while, starting later this week, and will not be taking my bike with me. As a result of this, I decided to begin my training week, with a fun workout on the bike trainer.
The specific workout that I did was challenging, but contained enough recovery time, that it felt like fun to do it. The main set on the workout was twenty, one minute intervals in a big gear, at low cadence. I had a full one minute of easy effort rest between each interval.
You can see from the power chart attached, that I did quite well. I always know that I have had a good workout, when I can raise my effort for the last few intervals. Those last few minutes were really hard work, but because I was pushing that effort at the end of the workout, it was easier to mentally push through.
Starting off really hard, rarely works as well. I usually end up failing, because it is just so hard to mentally dig that deep, for all twenty intervals.
I paced it well this evening and it truly was a fun workout. I’m thinking of doing another bike workout tomorrow as well. Then, while away, I will focus on running, to get ready for my ultramarathon.
