My next two races are events, where I am looking to have fun and to just complete them. There is one other race however, where I will have a very specific goal. I want to get back to Boston to run in the Boston marathon again.
My ‘A’ race for the back half of the year will be an open marathon. I will be racing the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon on November 5th. It is a flat course, so provides a good opportunity to run fast.
In order to qualify to apply for entry into the Boston Marathon, I will need to run faster than 3 hours, 50 minutes. To give myself a good chance of actually getting into the race, I will probably need to run at least 3 hours, 45 minutes.
The last open marathon that I ran was the Marine Corps Marathon back in 2019. I ran 3 hours, 43 minutes in that race. It will be very interesting to see if I can repeat that performance, now that I am three years older.
I think it is good to have a focus for the rest of the year, and I cannot think of a better one than trying to get back to Boston.
