The middle of race week always seems to drag on and on for me. I am excited to go race, but we don’t leave until tomorrow. I just want to be there, and to focus on the start line on Sunday.
The ‘hay is in the barn’ as far as fitness is concerned, so I cannot focus on training. I just need to stay sharp ahead of the weekend. This means short sessions and lots of rest. I find it hard to ‘just rest’.
Today, I found myself doing a number of things, just to pass the time. Most were actually very useful, but the day still seemed to last for ever. Some things that I did today were:
- Baked two loaves of bread to take with us. One to go with dinner tomorrow night, and another for toast on Saturday morning, as part of my ‘big breakfast’.
- Spent two hours watching the Tour de France… Waut van Aert cannot be human!!!
- Packed my race gear. It all goes into the two most important bags for the weekend. Must not forget these when we leave.
- Went for a super easy swim. My wife was going to the pool, and I couldn’t face not joining her. While there, I took some videos of her swimming to help her develop her technique.
Oh, I also ate a lot and drank plenty of fluids, as I load up my glycogen reserves for the weekend.
Luckily, the middle of race week is now almost over. Tomorrow, the real fun starts….
