Over the past week, my Facebook ‘Memories’ have been filled with photographs from some of my early endurance races. I think it does us all good, to occasionally look back at where we came from, and re-live our endurance sports journey over time. I think we tend to forget how much we have done.
This is a timeline of key moments in my endurance sports journey.
- May 2014 – First Half Marathon (Pittsburgh) – Today’s photo was taken after that race. I am smiling even though our son ran faster than me that day…
- October 2015 – First Marathon (Columbus)
- June 2016 – First Sprint Triathlon (The Dam Tri)
- September 2016 – First Olympic Triathlon (Mighty Moraine Man)
- April 2017 – Qualified for Boston (Toledo Marathon)
- June 2017 – First Half Ironman (Ironman 70.3 Raleigh)
- October 2017 – First Ironman (Ironman Louisville)
- October 2020 – First Ultrarun (Rachel Carson Trail)
- November 2021 – First SwimRun (SwimRun NC)
Those are mostly my ‘firsts’. I have done an awful lot of other races in between those above. You can see a summary of them all here. You can also read about several of the above races in detail, on my race reports page here.
What about your journey? How far have you come?
