As someone who has, for more than thirty years, left home each morning to go to work, it feels really strange to work from home. The work is exactly the same, but obviously, the environment is very different.
Even after two days, I am really missing the human interaction that comes with working in an office environment. Just simple things, like saying hello and sharing updates on family and activities, has all disappeared overnight. The two minute conversations at the coffee machine; the simple smile from a colleague as you walk by their office or the friendly banter that occurs as everyone gathers for a meeting …. all gone.
This is the new normal for a while, so I need to adapt. Starting tomorrow, I think I will just start calling others from work, and simply have a five minute conversation with them. I’m guessing that I am not the only one who is struggling with this, so it’s time to help each other out.
The one thing that hasn’t changed is my regular workout routine. Today was a two-a-day; bike ride on the trainer first thing, and then an outside run this evening. These runs are now really helping me. It’s time to reflect, but they also allow me to separate my work day from my family time. Before the run is work time, after the run is family time.
How is ‘working from home’ going for you? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
