A Different Kind Of Consistency

That photo might look familiar.  It should, because I posted an almost identical photograph about ten days ago.

In that earlier post, I described how I was struggling to keep to my nutrition goals. In the time since that post however, I have discovered that one way to stay consistently on track, is to find a meal you like, and stick with it.

I absolutely love these salad grain bowls.  I am currently having one of these bowls, pretty much every day.  Doing so has really helped me keep my nutrition on track.

You can mix them up by using different ingredients to provide a little variety.  For example, you can change the protein; I have been switching between chicken and pork.  You can also change the grains and legumes; I have been using various combinations of rice, quinoa, corn, edamame, black beans, peas and chick peas.  On the salad side, I have been mixing kale and baby spinach together with tomatoes and cucumber.

My coach often talks about variety in workouts and how it’s not necessary.  He says find something that works and stick to it, until it no longer works and then change things up.  I have adopted this same philosophy to my food and it is working well for me now.  Since starting my focused approach to nutrition, I am losing about a pound a week. This is the perfect rate to lose weight and hit something close to a great race weight, in time for IM 70.3 Chattanooga.

I’m off to make lunch to take to work tomorrow… guess what I’m having?

Quick footnote :  My website is pretty basic right now.  I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog.  I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
