When you go to the pool, do you just swim?
Training in the pool should not be about just getting in the water and swimming back and forth to achieve a certain distance. It’s important to include workouts, where you do a series of intervals. This helps develop aerobic capacity and also speed in the water.
I did just that tonight. Okay, my workout was a little on the extreme end, but it was just that, a thorough workout. My session was 40 x 50 yards at a fast pace on 15 seconds rest, followed by 1,000 yards at a comfortable pace. It was hard. It seemed to last for ever. It was almost soul destroying. It was also very beneficial.
The beauty of swim sessions is that you can really push yourself, but with very little risk of injury. Trust me, tonight I was gasping for air a lot during those fast intervals.
So, when you go to the pool, don’t just swim …. work hard!
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
