My bike is racked in transition, and that means only one thing, tomorrow we finally get to race again. It has been over eighteen months, since I last participated in a race this size. I had forgotten about the energy surrounding these events.
I followed my usual ‘day before the race’ routine today. This starts with a large breakfast; my last big meal before the race. When I say large breakfast, I do mean large. I had three eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and pancakes.
After breakfast, I relaxed for a while at the C26 Triathlon Hub, before heading to the Chickamauga Dam day use area, for a short practice swim. This was good practice, as it was my first open water swim this year. I was good to get a feel for swimming in a wetsuit again.
After the swim, we grabbed a small sandwich for lunch and went back to the hotel, for a little more rest. Mid-afternoon, it was time to take my bike to transition. Before racking the bike however, I took it for a quick, 25 minutes ride. This ride was used to spin out my legs and more importantly, to check that the bike was working correctly. All was good and I racked my bike.
The last thing I did, before heading back to the hotel for the rest of the day, was to make sure I understood how transition would work. I am glad I did this, because it is very different this year and involves some long runs.
Back at the hotel, I packed my items for tomorrow, prepared my nutrition and had a very small pasta dinner. I then double checked everything for tomorrow and am now relaxing before going to sleep. I’ll be in bed early. Just one more sleep before we finally get to race again.
