I did today’s run workout at lunchtime. It was a Zone 2 run and I didn’t really enjoy it, because it was really cold and windy. I also had a swim workout to do, and as the day wore on, I didn’t want to go to the pool.
Part of the reason that I didn’t want to go, was my experience at the pool on Wednesday. I didn’t feel strong in the water and I also got kicked out, after only a third of my workout. The pool was really busy and the lifeguard had to implement the gym’s 20 minute limit rule.
The other reason I didn’t want to go to the pool was the workout that I had scheduled. It was the longest one, so far this year. Here are the details:
- Warm Up – 5 x200 Alternating 200 swim and 200 catch up drill. 10 seconds rest interval.
- 5×100 Steady. 20 seconds rest interval.
- 5×100 Steady. 15 seconds rest interval.
- 5×100 Steady. 10 seconds rest interval.
- 5×100 Steady. 5 seconds rest interval.
- 10×25 with Band. 10 seconds rest interval.
- 500 Hard as possible.
- 200 Cool down.
That’s a total of 3,950 yards. It is a long swim and I was dreading those ten intervals with the band. I find swimming with a band to be really tough.
Even though I didn’t want to go to the pool, of course I went. What is more, I had an absolutely fantastic swim. I felt strong and did not fade much at all, towards the end. The band intervals were fine; I swam them as well as I have ever done. The whole thing went so well, that I even swam an extra 50 yards, to round out the total to 4,000 yards.
I am so glad that I went to the pool.
