With my Achilles injury, I have not been able to run recently. This has meant that my training has focused of biking and swimming. As a result of this focus, the volume of biking that I have been doing, is a little larger that I would typically do at this time of year.
This is how I happened to have a two and a half hour ride to do today. The thought of spending two and half hours, riding on the bike trainer, was a little daunting when I saw it on my training schedule. It wasn’t the physical challenge that was bothering me, it was the mental one. Even with things like Netflix, riding for two and a half hours inside, has the potential to be really boring.
Luckily, I am part of a team (C26 Triathlon) and one of my teammates had arranged for a virtual group ride this morning. He had set up the ride in Zwift, but knowing that everyone doesn’t have Zwift, he also set up a Zoom call. Joining that Zoom call, saved my ride this morning.
It was just nice to be able to talk to people while riding. We covered a wide range of topics, in addition to talking triathlon. Most people were doing an easy, Zone 1 – Zone 2 ride like myself, and this meant we weren’t all out of breath and could talk.
Looking ahead, I have another long ride next weekend. Hopefully, I will have the company of teammates then too.
