I am happy with my choices today.  Sometimes choosing not to do something, is the best decision.

My schedule today had me doing a forty minute, Zone 2 run, with the option to also do a swim.  Last night, when I went to bed, I intended to get up early and do my run before work, and then swim after work.

When I woke up this morning, it was one of those days, where you just don’t feel like getting out of bed to work out. So you know what I did, I rolled over and went back to sleep.  Before going back to sleep, I had told myself that I could do my run at lunchtime and still swim after work.  I still had time to ‘rescue’ my day.

Lunchtime arrived and I got changed to run.  The weather was a little bit warmer, but still cold.  The snow from earlier in the week was still on the ground and there were still patches of slippery ground on the sidewalks.  I went ahead and did my run my run outside anyway.  It wasn’t a great run.  My legs felt sluggish, but I got the workout done.

All afternoon. I was looking ahead at that optional swim.  I have really been enjoying my swims recently, but it was the thought of getting ready, driving to the pool and the hassles of dealing with restrictions while there, that was really bothering me.  Around three o’clock, I decided that I wasn’t going to swim. I immediately felt relieved.

The fact that I immediately felt relieved, told me that I had absolutely made the right decision.  It was an optional swim, and I was not at all happy about the thought of doing it.  Mentally and physically, I needed a break.  Then, when I realized I could relax and focus on recovery, I knew I made a good choice.

As I write this, even after relaxing for the evening, I am still a little tired.  Even more evidence, that I made the right choice.  Like I said above, sometimes choosing not to do something, is the best decision.
