After spending yesterday trying to address my sore quads, I woke up this morning and the soreness was almost completely gone. My muscles still felt tight, but they were no longer tender to touch.
I decided to focus on working on my legs again today. I did the same things as yesterday, except today I also incorporated a little more aggressive stretching. The photo shows a great stretch for quads and for opening up the hips. It’s called the couch stretch. It’s a great stretch, but when your quads are tight like mine are right now … it hurts. While it is painful during the stretch, the moment you finish, it feels so good.
The other good news about my legs feeling better, is that I was able to tackle today’s workout with vigor. I had an easy run followed immediately by a VO2 bike session. The run went great, apart from the fact that it was really hot and humid. The bike session was tough, but I was able to dig deep, and push really hard. I am really happy with how I am feeling, as I enter a very large volume, three week block of training.
There will be more stretching and foam rolling tomorrow. I am feeling the benefits after only two days. I need to stick to the process and hopefully become a little more supple as a result.
